We are looking for a passionate and experienced generalist Game Artist with a focus on 2D concept art to join the Clash of Clans art team. The Clash of Clans art team is highly distributed with more than 80% of the team working externally. While this team is external, every artist is treated equally. The focus on the internal artists is on making new things, envisioning the possibilities of the future and making the first prototypes and shipping the first version of a new feature. The external artists are the powerhouse behind consistent and repeatable delivery of ongoing asset production. You are the spark that brings the impossible to life and ignites the ongoing production of assets.
Working in the Clash of Clans art team is different. You are expected to seek feedback, not approval, meaning you need to be highly autonomous, working within a completely flat environment where you need to balance your own ambitions with the needs of the team. A large part of that is actively hunting for contrary opinions that will lift your work by exposing your personal biases and blind spots. Ultimately, you decide what feedback to action because the entire team trusts you to make the best decisions for the game and the players.
Maintain the high visual standards for design and look of Clash of Clans
Develop visual concepts and ideas for future release
Prototype and iterate on assets for the “first version” of new features
Polish and produce final “first version” assets to set a high quality standard
Work closely with external art partners as if they were internal artists to implement ongoing production assets for new features
Requirements
Capable of independently creating 2D/3D art from concept sketches to final animated ingame implementation
Expert 2D concept and illustration (Adobe Photoshop)
Experience in 3D modeling (Blender, Substance, ZBrush)
Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Animate (Flash)
Self-driven and always reaching for the impossible
Actively seeking contrary opinions to improve your work/perspective
Passion for games and hand drawn 2D illustration
